# Charge transfer

Hi
I am confused on if charge is transferred at all and if it is transferred if its a fraction or not.

What is the charge on spheres A and B after they touch and are moved apart? (Answer: There is Q/2 on each. Make sure you understand why.)

What happens to any charge on a sphere that is grounded?

See what you can do and let us know if (and where) you are still having difficulties.

I am not sure why the charge is split half and half between A and B after touching?
I would of said B would not be charged at all considering it was neutral to begin with.

When a sphere is grounded I am guessing it becomes neutral?

so at the end of the whole thing: the charge on A is q/4
The charge on B is 0
and the charge on C is q/4

is this correct do you know?

All the spheres are metal so charge flows easily. When A touches B the charges on the two spheres re-orient themselves to the lowest possible energy configuration. This means that we get half the charge on A and the other half on B.

Yes, C has Q/4 on it at the end. Good job!
