That's true, but one open-access publisher was caught out just recently when they welcomed a submitted paper that deliberately consisted of gibberish.

From my perspective, he's an accomplished and respected physicist.

Why do some people like to call such scientists scammers?

Do you reckon it's because most people simply can't understand their mathematics? Or, is it because they haven't contributed much to "real" world (solid) physics?
