In my school and college, I always hated Math. Now while having midlife crisis, I realized that it was not about Maths but the way it was taught. I found some meaning and and real happiness in Data Science, So I here is what happened:

P.S. I decided I will be doing mathematics even after I retire . I have started reading articles on http://mathforum.org/ and through google I found this forum.

- I started taking MOOC like Descriptive and Inferential Statistics and Probability etc. But I felt there was something missing while I was learning those topics, I was completely dissatisfied. So, after reading hundreds of articles regarding Maths and hundreds of posts on different forums/newsgroups, I realized it was the lack of understanding of Math in real life usage.
- I googled and bought Innumeracy by John Allen Paulos. Very interesting book. Also bought "How Not to be Wrong by Jordan Ellenberg" too.

- I was studying Applied Math and Statistics, but then I came across some posts on sci.math and other forums which made it very clear that Applied Math is built on the concepts taught in Theoretical/Pure Math and it is a lifelong journey. One can not understand applied Maths if he does not understand concepts from Pure Maths.

- I was a Math student before, but my knowledge is limited to basic algebra. I was wondering which book I could start studying and starting to work on problems to understand Math concepts.
- Since I am studying Data Science, I am inclined more towards Statistics, Linear Algebra and Calculus but according to John Paulos, without learning analytic geometry first, it is very confusing to start studying Calculus. On Wikipedia I observed analytic geometry is kind of dependent on algebra and now, this made me confused. Any advice?
